Mark Prentice 20th October 2016

Nigel was the first (of eight) chief executives that I have worked for at Colchester Hospital, and I have very many fond memories of him. When the Colchester Daily Gazette reported his death, he was described as "a man of the people" which was spot-on. He was a high-achiever, eg consultant surgeon, hospital chief executive, but he was always "one of us" and a man of great humanity. He was an Essex boy done good, and all the better for it. I can remember having many enjoyable conversations with him about his beloved Hammers, and he was always very supportive of me. The Gainsborough Wing at Colchester General Hospital is just one part of his legacy. The people of Colchester and north east Essex have many reasons to be grateful for Nigel Offen. A great bloke who will be missed by many. My condolences to his family and friends.
